Hi, I’m Brett Boyd
ATP (AMEL), Gold Seal Flight Instructor (CFII, MEI), Advanced and Instrument Ground Instructor
Lubbock, TX
Ever since I was a little kid, I have been completely in love with airplanes. Watching them fly over my house, getting to fly on them during vacation, all of it fascinated me. When I got older and realized I could do this as a job, I was in.
Originally from the Pacific Northwest, I attended Central Washington University and completed my primary flight training (through CFI) in the University’s FAA Training Program. After graduating, I worked at a local flight school in Washington State until I was hired as a First Officer. This new role brought me to Texas, where I have now lived in Odessa, and Lubbock.
One thing I did not expect on this journey was falling in love with instructing. I am grateful for the privilege to share my passion for flying with others and to help them find their way on their flying journeys.
My Philosophy
After spending years in different aviation training environments, it is clear that not all programs offer consistency. Often times different students, even at the same school, will have completely different experiences when it comes to their ground instruction, their CFI’s availability, and their personal success.
My philosophy is that sound aviation knowledge all begins with a strong understanding of the fundamentals, many of which are often overlooked, brushed over, or become rusty over time. I do not try to “throw students into the deep end.” Rather, I start with what a student understands, and build new concepts on this foundation.
I also make it my focus to instruct beyond the minimum knowledge areas needed to pass a checkride. I want every pilot to be prepared for the expected portion of their flights, as well as the unexpected, and to be safe.
NO Question is “Stupid”
I would much rather you ask a question you think is silly, than to be unprepared for a situation you encounter in an airplane. Ask lots of questions, ask me to explain a concept differently, whatever you need to understand the subject.
I Want You to Succeed
Checkrides, written tests, and ratings are expensive! I want to help you, as much as I can, to walk into that exam ready to go. If you are worreid, stressed, or feel unprepared, let’s talk about it so you can walk in with confidence.
